The concept for the North-West University sculpture was prompted by the history and the geographic location of the university yet, more importantly, by the University’s principles and ideals, which are best encapsulated in the phrase: Unity in diversity (many people make one). This phrase can be expounded to represent the ideals of integration, transformation, diversity, knowledge and development.

The sculpture is a manifestation of actual geographic data of the North-West Province, which is translated into the 76 steel sculpture profiles. These profiles contain all the ideals of the university, manifest as text, in the languages of Afrikaans, Setswana and English.

The arrangement of the sculpture profiles, are suggestive of embrace and connectivity, creating a form that is iconic, yet not monolithic.
