(Don't) Look Back
Gallery MOMO Cape Town presented (DON'T) LOOK BACK - a group sculpture exhibition, March 2017. It was a collaboration between the NIROX Foundation and Gallery MOMO. Participating artists included Willem Boshoff, Joni Brenner, Kendall Buster, Marco Cianfenelli, Guy du Toit, Stephan Erasmus, Richard John Forbes, Kim Lieberman, Ledelle Moe, Marcus Neustetter, Lwandiso Njara, Brett Rubin, Joachim Schonfeldt, Johan Thom, and Sophia van Wyk.

(DON'T) LOOK BACK stemmed from a shared commitment to advancing sculpture in South Africa. With a dedicated sculpture park located at the Cradle of Humankind, a studio/residency programme, and biannual sculpture fairs, NIROX remains at the forefront of contemporary South African sculpture. Gallery MOMO is extending this commitment to growing the discipline by offering Cape Town audiences the opportunity to view a diverse survey of recent work by fifteen of South Africa’s leading sculptors. (DON’T) LOOK BACK marked the first time that sculptures by NIROX-affiliated artists ventured to other parts of the country en masse.

Works on display ran the gamut from large-scale installation pieces to steel mesh, animalian bronzes, carved dolomite stone (sourced from the Cradle of Humankind), wood, steel, and mixed media assemblage. Consistent throughout is a commitment to moving the discipline forward in idiosyncratic and distinctive ways, and never looking back.

(DON'T) LOOK BACK - a group sculpture exhibition opened on 23 March 2017 and ran until 22 April 2017. The opening night on Thursday, 23 March included Lament, a collaborative performance between Lizette Chirrime and Ledelle Moe incorporating Chirrime’s signature fabric collages and Moe’s concrete and steel sculptures.
